Dear Facebook Friends,
As many of you know, I lost my home in the Palisades Fire on 1/7/25. Completely flattened. If you happen to follow me on FB, you know the progression since then.
So many divine individuals have offered assistance and help, and I have simply said, “Not now, too soon.” I’ve been on massive overwhelm trying to find housing for 3 individuals and 2 dogs, and tomorrow it becomes 4 individuals and 3 dogs. It’s just been A LOT. NO WORDS. But…
It has also been pointed out to me that I should really let these kind souls IN, who really want to help. Who could have ever THUNK this disaster could occur? Certainly not me. I left there with ONE pair of shoes, expecting to be back in 3 days.
So…here’s what I have come up with: As many of you may also know, I live with a divine Filipino couple that has worked for my family for 18 years. Henry is an architect by trade and Amy, a master in economics. They are simply GOOD, wonderful people. They too, lost everything in the fire. They initially came to the US some 20 years ago to support their 4 young sons living overseas. Amy in 2001, Henry in 2009. And now there are 2 wives and 3 grandchildren to add to their clan over there, people they have never actually gotten to physically hug. Unimaginable to me. They normally Skype every night with their extended family on Henry’s large hand-built screen and computer. They lost that whole set-up in the fire, of course, which was built because he has cataracts now and also cannot see letters on small screens (and no health insurance in the US). I, like an idiot, had an old PC laptop that I left behind because I didn’t even know they didn’t have one. They tell me so little because they don’t want to worry me unnecessarily. I am just now learning about the cataracts and the self-built unit, which was put together during my absence last October.
That’s the long-story short. Henry also lost a treasure trove of tools, absolutely invaluable, and his JUKI “Haruka” sewing machine, one of 4 others that had different functions. A passion of his. Very smart man, a genius, in fact.
So…I am proposing a GoFundMe for
THEM. I don’t feel I deserve one for me. I have been GIVEN so much in my life, but they haven’t. Contribute $500 or $5 or nothing. It is ALL truly okay. We are all just digging deep into our humanity right now. These are such strange, bizarre, difficult times. Unthinkable.
So, just THANKS. It’s really that simple. If there is enough, I will try to find a way to get him that surgery as well.❤️
