Maxson is raising this fundraiser for Hellen Arraya Campos, the widow of Maxson’s brother, Kyle, and for their 6-year-old son, Kainoah. Kyle passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Costa Rica, leaving Hellen and Kainoah to navigate an unimaginable loss while also facing urgent legal and financial challenges. In the immediate aftermath, family and friends came together to raise and disburse about $15,000 to help Hellen through those first difficult months. Now, with Kyle having passed without a testament, the family is working through the next critical step: finding the best legal path under Costa Rican law to transfer property to Kainoah and protect the home that Hellen and Kainoah depend on for daily life, school, and work.

Legal counsel has advised a route that could avoid lengthy probate and judicial proceedings, but it comes with significant legal costs. In addition, the family hopes to provide Kainoah with two years at a local Montessori school, since the local, pubic school system does not offer the quality of education they want for him during this important stage of life. This fundraiser also comes at a deeply meaningful moment. Kyle was a major part of the investigations after 9/11, a co-author of the 9/11 Press for Truth documentary, was integral to the formation of the 9/11 Commission sanctioned by Congress, and even the follow-up examinations of the final report issued by the government - always seeking the truth for American citizens and solace for the families of the 9/11 victims. As the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, Kyle’s colleagues are rallying around his family and honoring his legacy by supporting Hellen and Kainoah during this difficult time.
