HOPE FOR HELLA
On an early morning last month, I saw a pitiful sight: a skinny, broken, and sick-looking German Shepherd wandering the streets of an upscale neighborhood in Los Angeles. I rushed to this poor pup to see what was amiss, and she practically fell into my arms. As soon as I picked her up to load her into the back of my car, the name "Hella" popped into my head, which means "bringer of light." The name stuck.
I assumed she belonged to someone, but I was wrong. Although she was full of milk, she had no chip and no collar. She was extremely underweight, infested with ticks and fleas, and could barely walk on her own. She had been starved as she was feeding puppies and either escaped a terrible situation or was simply dumped like an unwanted piece of trash. Her puppies were not found, and she howled for days for them.
I've been around dogs all my life, and when I say she is a good dog, I mean it. She has a wonderful and steady temperament, is non-aggressive, eager to learn, and devoted to those who treat her well. I decided to make a commitment to her: get her healthy, adjusted, and trained for a forever home.
She has received medical attention for various issues, she is soon to get spayed, she's on a vet-approved diet, and currently she's attending a train-and-board where she's getting training to help her adjust to a home environment.
The resources required to do all this work have been solely mine. Time is critical, she can't stay with me much longer because my apartment complex is not accepting new dogs, and I am running out of resources for this sweet pup.
As with people, rehabilitating dogs takes a lot of time and support. She is well on her way. Please consider donating to this most worthy of causes.
Thank you!
