Support Helen's Dream Classroom in the Bronx

Hey Family and Friends!

As many of you know, I’ve been studying and preparing to become a bilingual education teacher. This has been a long-held dream of mine, and I’m so excited that it’s finally happening!

After 10 years in community organizing, fighting for tenants' rights, police accountability, and culturally responsive education in schools, I’m about to tackle my greatest challenge yet: the classroom.

I have so many ideas for my classroom. I want to create a warm and welcoming environment where every student feels excited to learn, sees themselves reflected in the books and materials, and can express themselves in whatever language they choose.

This fall, I’ll be teaching at an elementary school in District 12 in the Bronx. It’s a school with an awesome collaborative culture but, like many schools in the Bronx, it has been systematically underfunded. That’s why I’m reaching out to you all—my community—for help.

Help me raise the funds to set up my classroom and purchase much-needed supplies such as bilingual books, art supplies, and organizational tools for my first classroom.
