Helen (18) and her brother Phillip (21) are facing an unimaginable tragedy after losing both of their parents early Friday morning in a devastating act of violence. Their parents were taken from them just as they were preparing to leave for work, leaving two young adults suddenly and heartbreakingly alone.

The incident was caused by a relative who had been struggling with schizophrenia. In the time leading up to this tragedy, he had made threats toward the family, creating an atmosphere of fear. Seeking safety and a fresh start, Helen’s family had recently moved to a new home in hopes of rebuilding their lives. Unbeknownst to them, their relative had been keeping a close eye and found their new home while they were moving.

Helen and her Phillip’s parents were devoted, hardworking individuals who dedicated their lives to their children. They were kind, selfless, and deeply respected by those who knew them. Above all, they were loving parents who provided unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement. Their sudden loss has left an irreplaceable void.

Now, Helen and Phillip must find a way to move forward without the people who meant everything to them. Helen is preparing to begin her first year at UC Irvine, holding tightly to the dreams her parents always encouraged her to pursue. Her brother is just two months away from graduating from UC Riverside and beginning his career. Both are now navigating profound grief while trying to remain strong in the face of overwhelming change.
