I'm raising funds for my 39-year-old little sister Heidi Samberg who is battling breast cancer. Heidi is an ER nurse, devoted single mom of two incredible children (12 & 17 years old), and the person who show up for everyone, but she needs our help now.

In November 2025, Heidi asked a colleague to ultrasound an area that her provider didn't find concern with, but Heidi had felt a lump. Several concerning areas were discovered. What followed was a whirlwind of testing and appts that led to the diagnosis of IIB advanced multifocal invasive lobular breast cancer.

In January 2026, Heidi underwent a bilateral skin-sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. Pathology revealed a large 5.2 cm tumor with cancer cells close to and at the surgical margins, as well as isolated tumor cells in the lymph nodes. Shortly after surgery, she suffered a post op arterial bleed complication that required a return to the operating room.

While chemotherapy is not recommended due to a low Oncotype score, Heidi now faces 5 weeks of daily radiation treatments (25 total sessions) to reduce the significant risk of recurrence caused by positive margins. Radiation will target her chest wall and regional lymph nodes and is expected to cause fatigue, skin reactions, and further impact on her reconstruction process.

As an ER nurse, Heidi is used to caring for others in their worst moments. Radiation, ongoing reconstruction, follow-up appts, and recovery will make working full shifts extremely difficult in the coming months.
