Support Hector’s Surgery and Recovery from Cancer Diagnosis

My name is Héctor Andrés Villamizar Silva, I am 28 years old, and I am from Colombia. I have been living in Australia for the past 13 months, where I have been building my future and pursuing my dreams. However, on November 7, 2024, just one week ago, I received a life-changing diagnosis: testicular cancer. Fortunately, it was detected in time, which has allowed me to begin immediate medical treatment. Since then, I have undergone several tests, X-rays, and consultations with specialists.

After the exams, the doctors recommended surgery to remove the affected testicle, as well as a CT scan of my head, abdomen, and pelvis to ensure that the cancer has not spread. The funds I am raising will cover the costs of the surgery (including anesthesia and hospitalization) and other medical expenses not covered by insurance.

The surgery is scheduled for November 19, just a few days away. When I learned that surgery was necessary, the news came as a complete shock. But in addition to the medical uncertainty, I am facing another major obstacle: a lack of funds. As an international student in Australia, far from my family and friends, this situation has become even more challenging. I must not only confront the treatment and recovery, but also manage the basic expenses necessary for survival in a country where I don't have the same support system as I would back home.

Despite these difficulties, I deeply believe in the generosity and solidarity of the community. With your donations, I will be able to cover essential recovery costs, such as food, accommodation, and other basic living expenses. I am expected to rest for 3 to 4 weeks after surgery, which will prevent me from working during that time, making this situation even more urgent. My greatest hope is that, with enough time to heal, I will be able to resume my studies and continue fighting for a better future.

Queridos amigos y comunidad,

Mi nombre es Héctor Andrés Villamizar Silva, tengo 28 años y soy de Colombia. Desde hace 13 meses vivo en Australia, donde he estado construyendo mi futuro y mis sueños. Sin embargo, el pasado 7 de noviembre de 2024, hace solo una semana, recibí un diagnóstico que cambió por completo mi vida: cáncer de testículo. Afortunadamente, fue detectado a tiempo, lo que me ha permitido comenzar un tratamiento médico inmediato. Desde entonces, he estado realizando exámenes, radiografías y consultas con especialistas.

Luego de los estudios, los médicos recomendaron una cirugía para remover el testículo afectado, y también se me realizará una tomografía computarizada de cabeza, abdomen y pelvis para asegurar que el cáncer no se haya diseminado. Los fondos que estoy solicitando serán para cubrir los costos de la operación (cirugía, anestesia, hospitalización) y otros gastos médicos que no están cubiertos por el seguro.

La cirugía está programada para el 19 de noviembre, dentro de solo unos días. Al enterarme de la necesidad de esta operación, la noticia me tomó por sorpresa. Pero, además de la incertidumbre médica, me encuentro con otro obstáculo: la falta de fondos. Como estudiante extranjero en Australia, lejos de mi familia y amigos, esta situación se ha vuelto aún más difícil. No solo debo enfrentarme al tratamiento y la recuperación, sino también a la gestión de los gastos básicos para poder sobrevivir en este país sin el apoyo cercano de los míos.

A pesar de todo esto, confío profundamente en la generosidad y solidaridad de la comunidad. Gracias a las posibles donaciones, podré cubrir los costos esenciales de mi recuperación, como alimentos, alojamiento y otros gastos básicos. Se espera que deba reposar entre 3 y 4 semanas después de la operación, lo que me impedirá trabajar durante este tiempo y hace aún más urgente mi situación. Mi mayor esperanza es que, con el tiempo suficiente para sanar, pueda retomar mis estudios y seguir luchando por un futuro mejor.
