Support Héctor's Battle Against Pancreatic Cancer

Hello, my name is Héctor Andrés Estrada Zárate. I’m 32 years old, and 10 months ago I was diagnosed with CA-19 (pancreatic cancer with metastasis to the liver), with no possibility of surgical removal, as the tumor is located in the tail of the pancreas, which makes surgery not an option.

I feel fortunate and grateful because, thanks to God, I have a wonderful family who has stood by me despite the circumstances—especially my wife and life partner, Fany; my oldest daughter Katy, who is 11 years old; my little champion who is just 9; and my beautiful little girl Lía, only 7. They have been, and continue to be, the main reason I fight every single day.

Currently, I’m waiting to continue my treatment through the public healthcare system (Social Security), as financial constraints prevent me from continuing my treatment privately. The cost of each chemotherapy session is 23,000 pesos (about $1,300 USD) every month not including medications and medical tests that have been essential for my care. I sold everything I had built in order to afford treatment, but it still wasn’t enough. Even after the rounds of chemotherapy I received, the treatment had to be changed because it wasn’t working as expected.

I consider myself a hardworking, honest person who works for what he wants—but this time, my illness has made it impossible for me to work, support my family, or afford the cost of my treatment.

Hola, mi nombre es Héctor Andrés Estrada Zárate. Tengo 32 años y hace 10 meses me diagnosticaron CA-19 (cáncer de páncreas con metástasis en el hígado), sin posibilidad de cirugía, ya que el tumor se encuentra en la cola del páncreas, lo que hace que la operación no sea una opción. 

 Me siento afortunado y agradecido porque, gracias a Dios, tengo una familia maravillosa que ha estado a mi lado a pesar de las circunstancias—especialmente mi esposa y compañera de vida, Fany; mi hija mayor, Katy, que tiene 11 años; mi pequeño campeón, que apenas tiene 9; y mi hermosa niña, Lía, que solo tiene 7. Ellos han sido, y siguen siendo, la principal razón por la que lucho cada día.  

Actualmente, estoy en espera de continuar mi tratamiento a través del sistema de salud pública (Seguro Social), ya que las limitaciones económicas no me permiten seguir el tratamiento de manera privada. El costo de cada sesión de quimioterapia es de 23,000 pesos (alrededor de $1,300 USD) cada mes sin contar los medicamentos y estudios médicos que han sido esenciales para mi atención. Vendí todo lo que había construido para poder costear el tratamiento, pero aun así no fue suficiente. Incluso después de varias rondas de quimioterapia, el tratamiento tuvo que cambiarse porque no estaba funcionando como se esperaba. 

Me considero una persona trabajadora y honesta, que lucha por lo que quiere—pero esta vez, mi enfermedad me ha impedido trabajar, mantener a mi familia o cubrir el costo de mi tratamiento.
