It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic and unexpected passing of Mel Hellem Jr., age 51 — a devoted husband, loving father, caring son, loyal brother, and cherished friend to so many.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Mel had a warmth and humor that made everyone around him feel like family. After meeting the love of his life, Heather, the two built a beautiful life together first in New Jersey and then in Michigan, where they raised their two amazing children — Henrik (12½) and Kaia (8). Mel was the kind of dad who showed up for every game, every school event, and every bedtime story. His family was truly his world.

Mel’s sudden passing has left an unimaginable void in the hearts of all who knew him. His kindness, generosity, and steady presence will be deeply missed. As Heather and the kids navigate this heartbreaking loss, we are rallying together to help ease the financial burdens that come with such a tragedy — from memorial expenses to helping support the family’s immediate needs in the difficult months ahead.
