My cancer journey started on January 15th 2021 where I found out I had invasive ductal carcinoma grade 2. I had to go through 3 months of IV chemo, had a mastectomy on June 10th 2021 on my left side. They took 9 lymph nodes and 4 were cancerous. I had to go through radiation and spots were also showing on my bones but were too small to biopsy so we were unsure it it was stage 4 at that time. I was put on chemo pills Ibrance and bone infusion which seemed to help since started them in December of 2021. I actually went into “Remission “ for 6 months in 2022 which the doctors were baffled because technically you can not go into remission in stage 4 but I had no active cancer in my body. Praise God. The cancer did return into my C7 and T12 vertebrae which I had to have radiation as well for that in 2024. The cancer had spread to my lung as well. Ibrance quit working after 3 years and we were trying new pill chemo therapy. My body did not take well to the new medication. I have been a fighter and very positive for the last 5 years and have been focusing on being a great mom, wife and family member despite the challenges thrown my way. 2 su days ago I woke up with a horrible headache that just wouldn’t go away no matter what I did so after a week of that I went to the hospital in midland where they did an MRI of my head and xray of my chest. I was not expecting to hear that I had pneumonia and that the cancer has spread to my brain which was causing a lot of pressure and swelling. They also did a CT scan which revealed the cancer is also on my liver and lungs. I have a PET scan scheduled for today the 2nd. I have had my oncologist send a referral to MD Anderson out of Houston and I’m supposed to be doing my intake today. I am 40 years old and feel like God is moving me in this direction to go to a fantastic cancer center and we can come up with maybe stem cell treatment and whatever they think is best for me. With God all things are possible and there are a lot of trying times ahead and this has definitely affected my daily routine, my husbands work because he wants to be by my side as much as possible. We have no idea at this point what the trip to Houston is gonna look like, how long I am there or anything like that right now. I am a blessed mother of 4. Grayson who is 21, and have a beautiful 1 year old granddaughter Victoria LeAnne,Lily-13, Melody-10 and Eden who is 8. They are my world. Being a mother is the best Blessing in the world. I will keep fighting for my life and am so thankful for the support from everyone. Thank you for taking to the time to even us in your thoughts. I remain humble and hopeful but it has definitely had its hard moments. Any funds that are given will definitely help with the comfort of knowing that we can continue to move forward with MD Anderson and whatever is going to come along with that. Thank you for taking to the time to read about my journey. Forever appreciative, God bless you all. Heather Barton
