Support Heather as She Faces Unilateral Vision Loss
Heather’s life changed overnight on Sunday, August 31st. She woke up with sudden, severe vision loss and significant swelling in her right eye. She was immediately admitted to Johns Hopkins, where she spent a week undergoing multiple injections and an eye debridement in hopes of saving her vision. Despite every effort, her sight in that eye could not be restored, and she is now permanently blind on the right side.
She is currently in blind rehabilitation therapy, learning to adjust to her new reality. Unfortunately, she continues to experience pain and redness, and her doctors have now recommended complete removal of the eye. She is scheduled to meet with a plastic eye surgeon next month to plan the procedure.
This medical crisis came just two weeks after Heather had finally returned to work following a 10-week leave for emergency wrist surgery due to a fracture. She has once again been unable to work and is now facing an uncertain timeline for when, or if, she will be able to return.
Between extensive medical treatments, upcoming surgery, rehabilitation needs, and lost income, Heather is carrying a heavy financial burden on top of the emotional and physical challenges she is already enduring.
Heather has always been someone who shows up for others, and now we have the opportunity to show up for her. Any support, whether through donations or sharing this page, is deeply appreciated and will go directly toward her medical care, recovery, and living expenses during this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you for helping Heather navigate this journey with a little more stability, hope, and love.
