On Tuesday April 26, 2022 my daughter Emily Smigo and her friend Brandi Pope, lost their Airbnb to a house fire. Emily an ICU nurse and Brandi a Respiratory Therapist, had just moved to Dallas Fort Worrh for travel assignments when tragedy struck. While out on one of their first nights off, the Airbnb they were staying in succumbed to an electrical fire. Thankfully Emily and Brandi were not injured, but the house is a total loss and all the belongings they brought with them to Texas and Brandi’s two cats were lost in the fire. Emily and Brandi are now 1200 miles from home displaced from their housing with much of their personal belongings and basic necessities needing to be replaced. Emily and Brandi are dedicated healthcare heroes who have worked throughout the Covid-19 pandemic in the ICUs of a Level 1 Trauma Center. They took their passion for helping others to Texas and are now finding themselves in need.
The goal of this fundraiser is to support Emily and Brandi in the immediate aftermath of the fire. This kindness will
help Emily and Brandi recoup the three weeks’ rent that was prepaid on their housing, help fund a new Airbnb, and provide for them a safety net from which they can begin the process of replacing all that was lost.
Immediate rehousing needs include:
- Hotel accommodations until a new Airbnb can be secured ($500)
- First three weeks rent on a new Airbnb ($3000)
- Replacements of all of Emily and Brandi’s home goods that were lost ($2000)
- Replacement clothing, uniforms, and medical equipment ($2000)
- Increased living expenses during the transition ($1500)
