COVID-19 and Marginalised communities in Ghana
Donation protected
Hello everyone :) As countries all over the world continue to tackle COVID-19's devastation, many people have stepped up to show kindness in various forms for those who need it. Do your part, support marginalized communities in Ghana!
With the widespread incidence of marginalized settlements in urban areas, many communities are overcrowded and therefore cannot practice effective physical distancing even when they stay at home. In 2016, the UN reported that there were approximately 5 million slum dwellers in Ghana. The majority of them do not have access to running water and cannot afford hand sanitizers to maintain hand hygiene, because prices have recently risen sharply. The consequences of these factors, in light of COVID-19’s aggressive spread, is potentially catastrophic.
Health facilities are bracing for the inevitable rise in infection rates, amid fears of sorely inadequate resources like personal protective equipment for health personnel. There have been reports of nurses and doctors refusing to attend to patients with COVID 19 symptoms, because they are not adequately resourced and protected.
You can help to mitigate this calamity!
Our goal is to raise funds to;
- Purchase hand sanitizers to donate to some communities without access to potable water.
- Help provide water to these communities.
- Purchase protective gear for health personnel at the Madina Polyclinic Kekele* like face masks and shields, and gloves.
COVID-19 has vividly illustrated how interconnected humanity is across geographical boundaries, your contribution can touch lives near and far! Thank you for your support!
