I’ve been diagnosed with a breast cancer recurrence. Good news is that I’ve been shrinking the tumor with holistic treatments (e.g., IV vit C, hyperthermia treatments, teas and herbs, topical treatments, tons of supplements, reiki, eastern medicine and treatments, body work, etc.). Bad news is that these treatments are out of pocket and I’m only able to work part time right now (and divorcing). To give you an example, one high dose IV C is $300 and my integrative oncologist wants me to get 2 a week based on current efficacy research (but I’m only doing 1 a week due to financial situation). This treatment is covered by insurance in several other countries BTW.

I’ve also incurred numerous bills from all the scans (MRI, CT scan, bone scan, etc.) and appointments. I am still working on my conventional treatment plan which will involve at least one surgery and possibly proton radiation (more targeted/less harmful than photon), which is only done in San Diego, so I will likely need to spend 5 weeks renting a place in SD once healed from the first surgery. I also hope to go to a healing cancer treatment center in Canada with amazing reviews/outcomes post-radiation (it’s $20K).

Second opinions take time, so I’ve been doing a ton of research and self-treatment in the interim. My oncology surgeon and I are currently unaligned given what she recommends seems really excessive and would have long-term negative outcomes (lymphedema, removing back muscle, etc.).
