In the early afternoon hours of September 21, Tyler Carney, his wife Saira, and the
couple’s two young children were involved in a horrific accident when their vehicle was struck by a freight train which will require the
community’s support to assist them in healing.
Tyler has spent most of his life working with his hands as a carpenter. His tools were
also in the vehicle during the accident and unfortunately, most of those tools were either
lost or damaged beyond use. Due to the damages sustained by Tyler, he will be unable
to work and provide for his family for some time. Tyler absorbed the majority of the
injuries where he has seven breaks in his pelvis alone. He will be required to use a
wheelchair and a walker to get around once he is released from the hospital, but more
importantly, he will be unable to return to work and provide for his family for some time.
In the accident, Tyler’s leg was badly broken with a compound fracture, requiring
surgical intervention and the insertion of a titanium rod. His arm was also badly injured,
requiring the placement of plates and screws and of course the injuries he sustained to
his pelvis, also requiring surgical intervention. As of Friday, September 27, Tyler
remains in the hospital.
Saira stayed at home to raise the couple’s children however in her condition, Saira will
require the assistance from family and friends to preform her motherly duties. She
sustained 2 fractures to her back, internal bleeding, and a broken rib. She will require the use of a
wheelchair and walker to move around so as one can imagine, keeping up with a 14-
month-old and active four-year-old will be extremely difficult for the young mother.
The couple’s children both had guardian angels watching over them on Saturday. The
youngest child was released from the hospital the day of the accident, with minor
bruises and bumps. The oldest child sustained a broken leg and a small brain bleed.
She will be in a c-collar for 12 weeks while her neck heals from the impact. She was
released Wednesday. She will require a wheelchair for mobility, and she is scheduled to
have her cast put on within a few days.
The young family needs help. Between the pile of medical bills which hasn’t even begun
to roll in and the various medical devices the family must purchase to adapt to the
temporary normal, the family is beyond stressed. As we all know, it is hard to heal your
body when you are under emotional stress and the stress from the accident alone is a
hard pill to swallow.
Donations will be directed towards expenses occurred by the family for medical
supplies, household expenses, food, clothing to fit over braces and any other expenses
to keep the family on their feet. The family has no medical insurance to cover expenses.
Please consider making a donation to help Tyler, Saira and the girls navigate through
this huge, life changing event. At this point, Tyler’s prognosis is truthfully unknown so
there is no set time in stone that he will be returning to work.
Aesop once said, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
Thank you for your time. Please share this donation page with your friends, family and
community as well. No family should have to endure such a traumatic experience alone.
