My name is Headly. I am 74 years old. I’ve been driving Uber for 9 years and I love it. Long before I started doing it I told people that my happy place was behind the wheel of a car with music playing. The passengers are the bonus.

I’ve always worked hard to support myself as an Uber driver. I used to be able to bang out 8-9 hours a day on the road, but now, because of sudden and severe health problems, some days I can barely manage half that. Since I only make money while I’m driving, this has had a huge impact on my ability to earn a living. Like so many others, I don’t have healthcare, and my budget is taking a massive hit as I try to manage these unexpected challenges.

Every day, I worry about how I’ll pay for basic necessities like groceries and daily expenses. The stress of not knowing how I’ll make ends meet has been overwhelming, and I’m doing my best to stay hopeful as I focus on my recovery. I know that many people are facing tough times, and it’s difficult for me to ask for help, but I truly need support right now.

I am embarrassed to be in this situation, having to ask people for money to pay my bills. I can only hope that people respond by opening their hearts and pocketbooks.
