HC Porto, the nation’s first professional ice hockey club, was established in 2023 with a bold vision: to become the foundation of ice hockey in Portugal and to inspire a new generation of players in a country where the sport was still finding its footing.

Our Vision: A Hockey Pyramid for Portugal

HC Porto was founded with a mission to create a sustainable ice hockey ecosystem in Portugal. Our goal is to build a hockey pyramid, starting with our professional team and expanding to youth academies, regional teams, and community programs. We want to put Portugal on the map of European ice hockey and provide opportunities for young athletes to succeed on the international stage.

The Challenge: Playing on the Road

While our home arena in Trofa, just 15 minutes from Porto’s airport, is under construction, our team faces a unique challenge: we’re playing every game on the road.

This means constant travel, logistical hurdles, and added expenses for our players, staff, and management. Despite these challenges, we’re competing in the highest division of Spanish Ice Hockey, the Iberian Hockey League, proudly representing Portugal and proving that we belong among the best. ( Currently 3rd place in the Championship standings )

We’ve set an ambitious goal of €50,000 to help cover the team’s massive expenses for the rest of the season and summer preparation.

Competing in the Iberian League means traveling to cities across Spain, your donation will help cover transportation and accommodation for the team.

A Pathway for Portuguese Talent

At the heart of HC Porto’s mission is our youth academy. We’re dedicated to developing the next generation of Portuguese ice hockey stars, providing them with world-class coaching, training, and opportunities to succeed. Our ultimate goal is to see these young athletes continue their careers in top European and North American leagues.
