What they don’t always have… is access.
Every year, thousands of talented HBCU students dream of becoming doctors, pharmacists, nurses, researchers, and healthcare leaders — but many are forced to watch opportunities pass them by because they cannot afford the certifications, training, and career exposure that wealthier students often take for granted.
A student should not have to choose between:
- paying rent or paying for certification exams
- buying groceries or buying textbooks
- working exhausting jobs or gaining healthcare experience needed for medical school
Yet this is the reality for so many aspiring Black healthcare professionals.
That’s why MedPlug was created.
This summer, MedPlug is launching a tuition-FREE Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) training cohort exclusively for HBCU students pursuing careers in healthcare.
These are students majoring in:
Biology
Chemistry
Nursing
Pre-Med
Pre-Pharmacy
Public Health
Biomedical Science
Neuroscience
Health Science
Kinesiology
Medical Laboratory Science
Psychology (pre-health track)
and other healthcare-related fields
For many of them, this opportunity could be life-changing.
Why This Program Matters
A CPhT certification is not just a certificate.
It can mean:
- a struggling student finally getting a stable healthcare job
- a future doctor gaining real patient-care experience before medical school
- a first-generation college student finally feeling qualified enough to compete
- a young Black healthcare leader realizing they DO belong in medicine
This program gives students:
✅ Real healthcare experience before graduation
✅ Stronger medical, pharmacy, PA, and nursing school applications
✅ Early exposure to medications, patient safety, and clinical workflows

The Reality We Cannot Ignore
Black Americans remain drastically underrepresented across healthcare professions.
Many brilliant HBCU students are capable of becoming physicians, pharmacists, researchers, healthcare executives, and public health leaders. But systemic financial barriers continue to shut doors before students ever get the chance to walk through them.
Meanwhile, certification programs can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars — far beyond what many students can afford.
We refuse to let finances determine who gets to pursue their purpose.
