Hello and Hafa Adai, my name is Hazel Mira, I was diagnosed with a malignant, Stage 4, thymoma in February 2022. My journey since then has been quite a roller coaster. I underwent two surgeries to attempt to remove the tumor, but to no avail. I completed two sessions of chemotherapy and one cycle of radiation. Going through these treatments and surgery within the last two years was not easy. And I am still not done - yet. In my recent surgery, I found out that the cancer mutated to thymic squamous cell carcinoma.

Unfortunately, treatment in my hometown is no longer available. This fundraising is to aid and assist me on my next venue of treatment. I have been referred to a cancer or research center in the U.S. mainland, which I am hoping and praying that a treatment is available.

My next adventure, as I like to call it, is hopefully the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Twaddle and his team from Circle of Care had diligently researched the next best care facility that is within insurance network provider. The thought of travelling to the mainland is nerve racking as I am travelling to a place where I know no one nor can I just call a nearby relative for assistance. With Philippines, I had nearby family relatives that I can call and will happily assist. Thank you, Lord, for such a wonderful and loving family.

This GoFundMe page and all other fundraising that I am hoping that will push through in the next 2-months is to assist with the expenses, such as airfare, lodging, transportation and other medical bills that may accumulate. My journey so far has been a blessing. Having access to a great medical center at St. Luke’s Philippines is a blessing. Being able to tolerate chemo treatments and all its side effects is another God’s work in hand. Now I hope that this next venue will be just as successful.

I have a wonderful 12-year-old girl who has become my nurse and completely in tune whenever I am sick. She has been such a blessing and my reason to keep fighting. She and I became the perfect team. She picks up subtle sign whenever I need to rest and tries to help with what she can. She knows that once I am fully rested, we can return to our normal routine, which would be either “can we go to the mall?” or “can I hang out with my friends?” With all the things that she has witnessed, asking to go to the mall conveys that she is handling everything well for her age – I think.

My biggest hope in life is to see her flourish into a wonderful young lady that our Lord Father created her to be. I would love to share those special moments with her. To see her pass her driving test, graduate from college and to see her mature into a thoughtful, God-loving and sweet lady. These are the moments that any parents would love to experience.

My journey has been life changing. Although I fear all the overwhelming things that are happening to me, I also discovered that life is beautiful with all its imperfections. I learned how to love wholeheartedly. In my moment of calm and peace, I leaned into my Lord God and Jesus for blessing me with another chance in life to live LIFE. To Thank Him every day that I am still able to share and connect with my daughter, family, friends, co-workers and all the wonderful doctors, nurses, care supporters, and acquaintances I met along the way. Without them, I don’t think I would have been able to push through. To this day, I continue with my journey full of positivity and gratefulness for all the treatments and support that have been available to me.
