Haylan Engdahl, a sophomore at Milligan University and graduate of Christian Life High School in Kenosha, was tragically killed while on a morning team cycling ride. It is an unfathomable tragedy, one that no family, friend, teammate, or community should ever have to face. Those who had the privilege of knowing Haylen also had the privilege of experiencing the joy he brought into a room. Never without a smile, Haylan had a presence that was impossible not to notice, along with a genuine kindness and enthusiasm that seemed to radiate from him. Haylan was smart, funny, and deeply passionate about bikes and riding. Whether it was mountain biking, cyclocross, or criterium road racing, Haylan had an endurance and power hidden in that tall frame that would take anyone by surprise. His passion for cycling was a huge part of who he was, and he was treasured by friends and by the cycling community.

Haylan’s loss is being felt by far more people than those who knew him personally. He touched lives simply by being Haylan, through his smile, his humor, his kindness, and his incredible enthusiasm for life. Haylan’s mom, dad, and brother are now facing an unimaginable nightmare as they try to navigate life without him. This fundraiser is a way for the community, friends, teammates, classmates, and everyone who has been touched by Haylen to come together and help ease some of the financial burden as his family navigates the days and months ahead. Most importantly, it is a way to remind Haylan’s family that they are not alone and that so many people are here to stand beside them and carry Haylan’s memory forward.
