Harvette Langford-Williams is an amazingly gifted mother of two adult daughters. Her talents have awarded her a successful career in the beauty industry as a hair stylist, where her passion to enhance the outward appearance of every person that sits in her chair can be quantified by her longstanding clientele. Many have forged a strong bond of friendship, many becoming family.

Though small in stature, standing only four and a half feet tall, her outgoing spirit is a large presence, bringing positive energy to every room she enters. Serving her community selflessly, she is a faith-driven active church member, an active member of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, and an Eastern Star Sister. Harvette has faced a decade of health challenges that would pause her ability to at times have her normal quality of life.

It began when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She entered the fight very optimistic and open for the journey to healing. Many would relish in how resilient she remained through loss of income, physical changes, and the unknown. She persevered, eventually regaining her strength and ability to work, moving forward as a proud cancer survivor!

There would unfortunately be additional health matters that would have her hospitalized over the years that passed, each time taking its toll on her ability to earn income and tap into her savings.

Harvette’s ability to rebound has been something to behold. In 2021, while at her Southfield, MI hair salon, she suffered what was later determined to be a brain aneurysm. Rushed to the emergency room, she spent crucial moments receiving medical care that would be life-saving. The care plan outlined left her out of work for another stint of time, placing additional strain on her finances. Through her resilience, she once again became an overcomer.

On the evening of Saturday, August 24, she retired home after a long day of clients and community service volunteering with a carry-out meal. She was woken up with sharp stomach pains. Harvette made her way to the restroom where she found herself grasping for air on the floor. Alert enough to seek help, she called her daughter to provide assistance. Though immediately after hanging up, she realized what she was experiencing needed medical attention as the pain increased and the ability to breathe normally became more difficult. Harvette called 911. EMS arrived at the same time as her daughter to a very cold body in excruciating pain. She was transported to the hospital where it was determined she was experiencing internal bleeding and needed immediate blood transfusions to save her life. For the following days, she would receive additional transfusions, visits from specialists, and CT scans to try and understand the state of her medical condition. She was told by her attending physician that she was very sick and needed to be in the hospital so they could figure out a solution to get her to a place of healing. Harvette has remained in the hospital since, with ongoing medical tests and procedures aiding in small positive progressions towards getting healthy.

This time, she won’t be able to go back to work as quickly as she has in the past. We are asking for funding to cover expenses and lost wages so that she can concentrate on getting back to her fullness of life.
