Support Harvard Ballet's Balanchine Performance

Harvard Ballet Company is a student run group, dedicated to providing its dancers with professional opportunities. This past summer, our directors worked with the Balanchine Trust in order to bring Balanchine rep back to Harvard’s campus for the first time in many years. We are thrilled to announce that our efforts were successful—the Trust approved our materials and came October 12th-14th to set the first movement of Stars and Stripes on our dancers. This is a huge opportunity, one that will provide numerous dancers with the opportunity to perform Balanchine’s coveted work.

All this being said, we are having difficulty acquiring the costumes we need to perform Balanchine’s repertoire. Part of our contract with the Balanchine Trust is that we agree to do the exact choreography, lighting design, and costume design as the original Stars and Stripes which premiered in 1958. Ballet West has agreed to rent us thirteen tutus, but they are asking for a $4000 rental fee in addition to an extra $1750 shipping fee. Unfortunately, companies closer to the Boston area are unwilling to rent their costumes to a student group.

As such, we ask that you consider donating to our company this season. We hope to continue to provide our dancers with rare opportunities, and we truly believe that having these costumes is an integral part of honoring Balanchine and his renowned ballets.
