Our family is going though a very difficult time as Harriet has been diagnosed with a new very aggressive cancer. Harriet was first diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2023. She battled her first cancer diagnosis and went through six rounds of chemotherapy which ended in August of 2023. She was in remission from August 2023 until August 1, 2025. She found out on August 1st that the cancer metastasized to her brain resulting in a devastating diagnosis of brain cancer. At this time Harriet has been told that she has 17 months left to spend with loved ones.

Harriet began treatment in August and completed five rounds of radiation in Prince George. Next week Harriet will begin chemotherapy at the hospital in Williams Lake. The hope is that radiation treatments will shrink the tumors, possibly alleviating some of the symptoms she is experiencing. She will also travel to Kamloops to insert a port so that she can receive the chemotherapy treatments.

Harriet has spent her adult life giving to others in her roles at Victim Services, the RCMP, the hospital as an Aboriginal Patient Navigator, and most recently as a counsellor running her own business. Harriet never expects anything in return, and she has the most generous heart. She will stop and pick up people off the street. Harriet is always giving what she can to others. Harriet loves being out on the land; so far, she has been able to continue to spend time being in the outdoors. Harriet spends time sourcing Indigenous medicines which she shares with others. She has recently started to use these medicines to treat her cancer.

The cost of travel and missed work for Harriet, Steve, Haleigh, and Jarret is already adding up. It is always difficult to ask, but the family could really use monetary support (and of course your prayers) as they navigate this heart-breaking time.
