Hi everyone! My name is Harper, and I’m a student at the University of Redlands on the Pre-Med track, with a passion for understanding global healthcare systems and advancing health equity.
In May 2026, I’ve been given an incredible opportunity to participate in a May Term course in Eswatini and South Africa focused on Health and Medicine in Southern Africa. This three-week program combines service learning and cultural immersion to explore how healthcare systems operate in regions deeply impacted by HIV/AIDS, and how local communities, hospitals, and NGOs work together to improve public health outcomes.
During this life-changing experience, I’ll be working closely with the Ministry of Health in Eswatini on a variety of community health projects that directly support local well-being. My group and I will help renovate hospital facilities, assist with malaria control surveys, and support Hospice at Home initiatives that bring compassionate care to patients and families in need. Beyond service, I’ll also have the opportunity to explore the region’s rich history and culture by visiting landmarks such as Mandela House, the Apartheid Museum, and the Cradle of Humankind. Along the way, we’ll participate in safari and cultural exchange experiences that celebrate the natural beauty and resilience of Southern Africa, allowing me to learn not only about health and medicine, but also about humanity, heritage, and hope.
The total cost of this once-in-a-lifetime experience is approximately $6,000 which will help cover program essentials such as lodging, meals, transportation, and project supplies, airfare to and from South Africa, travel insurance, vaccinations, and educational materials. Every donation, no matter the size, will bring me closer to this opportunity to learn, serve, and represent my university abroad. This journey isn’t just a class; it’s a chance to make a real impact while gaining meaningful experience that will shape my future in medicine. By contributing, you’re helping me take a step toward becoming a healthcare professional who values compassion, equity, and global understanding. ❤️ Every dollar truly helps. Please consider donating or sharing this campaign with others who believe in empowering young healthcare leaders to make a difference.
