In July 2024, our daughter Harper was just 10 days old when she was admitted to the PICU at Arkansas Children’s Hospital with E. coli sepsis, elevated inflammatory markers, and liver abnormalities. During her hospitalization, she required an emergency laparotomy to remove a section of her small intestine that had become necrotic due to infection. The surgical findings were consistent with congenital defects which led to the perforation.
Despite clear medical documentation, including surgical reports and consultations with hematology and infectious disease specialists, Harper’s condition was misclassified as child abuse by a hospital-affiliated pediatrician.
We now need independent medical experts - specifically we are seeking a pediatric surgeon and radiologist - to thoroughly review Harper’s records, provide expert reports, and, if necessary, testify to ensure her case is understood correctly. These professionals are critical to protect our family from criminal prosecution.
This is not about blame—it’s about truth, medical accuracy, and justice for our child. Harper is recovering beautifully, but we need expert support to ensure the facts of her medical care are fully represented.
We are also facing a critical legal battle, and the stakes couldn't be higher. While we are grateful for the public defender's office, their heavy caseload has made it impossible to get the time, attention, and progress this case desperately needs.
We desperately need to hire a private criminal defense lawyer to ensure a fair fight and a proper defense, but the retainer fees are beyond what we can afford alone.
