A Life Together, a Difficult Journey

My name is Harold, and I am writing to share the story of my wife, who is battling terminal stage 4 brain cancer. For 45 years, she has been the center of my world, a loving mother to our three children, and a proud grandmother to three grandchildren. We have always believed in the value of hard work and taking care of our own, and I have never before found myself in a position where I had to ask for help. However, the reality of our current situation is one I simply cannot manage alone.

The Burden of Care

As her illness progresses, my wife requires nursing home care that presents an insurmountable financial challenge. Since she has not yet reached age 65, she is ineligible for Medicare, and she does not meet the requirements for Medicaid in New York. The cost of her care exceeds $15,000 every month, an out-of-pocket expense that will quickly exhaust my modest retirement savings.

Seeking Dignity and Support

While I understand the terminal nature of her diagnosis, my deepest wish is for her to spend her remaining time with dignity.
