Harley Jones is only 18 years old, and in just a few short years, she has experienced more heartbreak than most people face in a lifetime. After losing her father, Jonathan Jones, to complications following open-heart surgery several years ago, Harley should have been celebrating one of the happiest milestones of her life—graduating from high school in June 2026 and preparing to begin college this fall. Instead, on the morning of June 29, 2026, her life changed forever. According to the charges filed, Harley survived an alleged attempt on her life by her own mother. She was able to escape and call 911, an act that likely saved her life. Her mother is currently being held in Maryland without bond while facing multiple felony charges, including attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and assault with intent to use a deadly weapon. No young woman should ever have to endure something so devastating.

Although Harley is surrounded by caring people who want to see her succeed, she has a very limited support system to help meet her day-to-day needs. Much of her extended family lives outside the area, leaving her without the consistent local network that many young adults rely on as they begin college. As she works to heal from this trauma, she is building a new support system one step at a time. Those who know Harley know she is kind, hardworking, and determined. She deserves the opportunity to heal—not simply survive. She deserves the chance to attend college, pursue her dreams, and build a future defined by hope, resilience, and possibility rather than the unimaginable tragedy she has endured.

This fall, Harley will begin her college journey at Salisbury University. The University has been incredibly compassionate and is working closely with Harley to help ensure a smooth, supportive transition as she begins this new chapter. Even with that support, she is suddenly facing adulthood under extraordinary circumstances and is working to overcome significant financial and personal challenges. Funds raised will help Harley cover rent and housing expenses, utilities, food, health insurance, trauma counseling, cell phone and transportation costs, and college-related expenses and financial aid gaps.
