Support Harlem Voices: Keep the Music Alive

Dear Friends,
We're reaching out with urgency and hope.
The Harlem Voices Revue is a powerful, deeply moving series of live performances based on "Harlem Voices" and "Harlem Voices: Revisited" — two musicals I composed that celebrate Black artistry and tell the truth about systemic racism in America, past and present. These shows uplift voices too often silenced, and their impact in rural Lake County, California has already been profound.
We received a grant from California Humanities, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, to produce five performances. We've proudly completed PREVIEW performances. But now, due to the sudden and indefinite suspension of all NEH funding, our primary funding source has vanished.
Public funding of the arts is essential in the United States because it ensures that all communities—regardless of wealth or geography—have access to creative expression, cultural heritage, and the power of storytelling that shapes a just and vibrant democracy. We are determined to go forward in the face of this cynical attack on our shared creative heritage.
In our two already completed performances we moved rural audiences in Lake County, California to tears and cheers. But we need $18,000 to finish delivering three full concert performances scheduled for May 30, 31, and June 1, 2025, at the Soper-Reese Theatre. We owe it to our artists, our community, and our ancestors to finish what we started.
Our cast includes a 12-piece orchestra, 4 vocalists (April M. Wright, Reggie Finley, Ben Meyers, and Blue Ryon) and the “My Divas” acapella female quartet as our choir.
We urgently need $18,000 to fund the final performances.
Every dollar will go toward:
- Paying our musicians and crew fairly
- Renting the venue
- Covering production and travel costs
Please stand with us. Your donation helps us resist the erasure of cultural history and bring powerful truth to life on stage. Together, we can make sure these vital performances happen — and that the "Harlem Voices" will be heard.
With gratitude and love,
Clovice Lewis & the Harlem Voices Revue Team
