One of the most beautiful people I’ve ever been lucky enough to know has just been told by her medical team at the University of Utah that she has 1- 2 weeks left to live. The cancer that she has been battling since 2022 recently metastasized to her spine and very recently her brain. She had an emergency craniotomy 2 weeks ago but it was unsuccessful in stopping the rapid progression of this disease in her body and brain. None of us thought we had so little time left with her and now she needs a little help.

Happy is currently in the hospital and has made it clear that she does not want to go home to die, for her children' s sake. Today, her family was handed even more unfortunate news, learning that their insurance will not cover inpatient hospice care. Her husband is now trying to find a hospital within driving distance that can take her in—while also juggling a million impossible thoughts and tasks.

A little that doesn’t even scratch the surface about my awesome friend. Happy is a wife and mother of 3. Her youngest is 13, her middle child is in high school, and her oldest just started her freshman year of college. (Apologies for the dated photo) Before her diagnosis she spent her time volunteering with adults with disabilities, taking people on outings, and spreading light in the community. If you’re wondering about her name, Happy is the nickname she’s carried since childhood because she’s always been just that! Happy and full of joy that is raw and contagious in the best possible way. Even this year, while she herself was dealing with chemo treatments and chronic pain, she sent a gift card to me to get dinner.. as I was staying at the hospital with my husband who was recovering from his own craniotomy to battle brain cancer. I can only imagine how many others were gifted her kindness & encouragement even during her own most challenging time of life. She is the kind of person that has put others first her whole life and has done so in a way that is humble and discreet never seeking praise, attention or thanks because she loves those around her in a way that is more Divine than ego, a trait not truly embodied by many. This crazy world we live in has most certainly been made better with her in it and I believe she should to spend her remaining days in peace, surrounded by love, in a setting that provides comfort and dignity without financial strain on her family.

If, by miracle, we raise enough for her inpatient care and she does not need all of the funds, the remaining amount will go directly to support her family during this time of unthinkable loss in every way possible. Alternatively, if we are not able to raise enough for her care, we will use what we raise to help make her remaining days as peaceful as possible for her and her family and any remaining funds would be used for her family’s needs at this time and or medical bills.

Thank you for reading this and possibly donating to help Happy in her remaining time with us. If you know anyone who happens to do work with, or supports End-of-Life care/ philanthropy, please feel free to pass this along today as this call for support is one that comes with an imminent timeline.
