Hi all,
This is Samantha, Hans’ daughter.
I’m creating this GoFundMe to humbly ask for support from our loving community. As many of you know, my dear father, Hans Supit, passed away on May 31st. My mom and I are grieving this loss deeply.
We were surprised by how costly the funeral and burial process is, especially at the cemetery where his body's final resting place will be next to my sister, Natasha, who was buried there over 20 years ago (the funeral home was once a family owned business that had recently been bought out by a big corporation, hence the higher than average cost). While we’re choosing the most basic options (while at the same time still trying to provide a proper and beautiful funeral that my dad so deserves), the total is still far beyond what we expected and I'm hoping this GoFundMe can at least help offset some of the cost.
Asking for support is not something that comes easily. But over time I've learned the importance of allowing our friends and family to show up for us, to allow love & support in, and how that comes in many forms. My dad especially had a hard time asking for help, for he was always more of the type to give. He was the kind of man who always made sure you were warm, safe, and fed (and will ask you 2 or 3 times if you ate yet). The kind of man who would drop everything to be there for someone else if they're in need. Even during this past year, while enduring so much pain from the cancer, he rarely complained. He just wanted to keep showing up for his family by trying to remain strong.
I won’t go into the details of the unjust grief-price gouging funeral industry’s pricing structures (corporate greed in a sacred space, ugh), but suffice it to say that it’s a difficult system to navigate while grieving. We’re doing everything we can to create a simple but beautiful service that reflects the honorable man and life that my father lived.
If your heart feels moved to contribute, we would be so deeply grateful. Whether through a donation, a message, or simply holding us in your hearts and prayers, we thank you infinitely for walking with us during this time.
