Hello! If you’re new here, my name is Hannah and I am 42 years old. Trust me when I say that this is one of the last things I ever wanted to do.
For the past five years, I have been in an intense fight to protect and enhance my mental health. If you want a list of diagnoses since then, here you go: Major Depressive Disorder, General Anxiety Disorder, and Binge Eating Disorder. Those official diagnoses are partnered with unofficial ones of chronic suicidal ideation and obsessive tendencies. So yes, it has been a great time.
Additionally, I have always fought with my body to have a good relationship with food and my body. Over the last two years, those two goals have come to a point where one is inhibiting the other due to medications.
My depression is treatment-resistant and I have tried over 10 medications from all types of categories and have only found one to be semi-effective. It doesn’t remove the depression but it makes the episodes shorter. Unfortunately, one of the side effects is weight gain.
I'm not going to get into numbers because that isn’t the point. The point is that with my (and my family’s) health history, this side effect is dangerous for me. I am having to choose between my physical health and my mental health. I have chosen my mental health.
My med provider would like me to take a GLP-1 to counter what the medication is doing to me. However, because I am not diabetic, insurance will not cover it. I have found a place where I can get it out of pocket but the expense is high for my income.
That’s where this comes in. I am asking for help to cover 6 months of the GLP-1 being recommended to me in order to not only improve my physical health but to take a lot of emotional distress out of my life. When I say this is to improve my life, I mean it. It is not about a number on a scale or what my body looks like. It is about being able to function in this world with the other challenges I face.
If you feel so led to give, I am very thankful. If you don’t, I would appreciate your prayers as I place trust that God will make a way.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I’m a pretty open book.
Thank you for your time!
