Support Hannah's Family in Overcoming the Cat Pee Crisis

My name is Hannah and my teenage boys and I bought a house in July 2023 that we didn’t know was saturated in cat pee. In October 2023, the severity of the cat pee problem was brought to our attention by our cat, Bella, who was obsessively focused on a dark spot in my room. Upon tearing out several floor boards in my room, we quickly found out that the entire floor, joists and ceilings below the floor were completely soaked in cat pee. Going around the house, we realized that the dark spots on the floors that we thought were from age or water damage (the house is over 100 years old) were really cat pee. We moved out and completely demo’d almost all rooms in the house, and even had to tear our air ducts and replace dangerous electrical issues we found. Over the past 10 months, we have worked endlessly to remediate this problem and to get back into our home. We’ve been posting updates about our story on TikTok. The boys and I were able to move back in the week before school started. We are still working on the basement, which has cat pee that has been difficult to get rid of. We are hoping to finish the basement within the next month.
The cost of having to tear down and rebuild so much of our home has been tremendous. We took out at $45,000 loan, have almost maxed out three credit cards and I have spent all of my savings (which wasn’t a lot, but it was all I had). I have been aggressively funneling all the money I can to paying off the credit cards, to avoid incurring huge APR amounts. From credit cards alone, there is $11,229.42 that I have spent on the house. And I also spent all of my $2,850 in savings. I added these two numbers together, as the goal number for Go Fund Me.
After posting the story of what my boys and I have been through on TikTok, the videos unexpectedly went viral. Many people have been encouraging me to setup a Go Fund Me, to help pay for the expenses that this cat pee situation has cost my family. I want to make it clear that I do not expect anything from anyone. If people want to donate to help us pay off this debt, my boys and I tremendously appreciate your help. This has been a long and difficult road we have walked. We have broken our bodies and our minds trying to fix a problem that we didn’t cause.
I’m going to post a video on TikTok explaining more about the history behind how the house got so bad. It’s really sad. And unfortunately, we are now cleaning up the mess of a very troubled person who lived a troubled life, and didn’t seek help. And we are the recipients of that situation.
Thank you in advance for supporting the boys and I. All of the positive messages and comments and encouragement mean more than you will ever know. I feel like we’ve been living in hell for almost a year, and it’s been incredibly meaningful to have so many people validating our situation. This has been such a strange path to walk, and I have felt alone through most of it, because not a whole lot of people go through something like this.
Thank you, again. Truly, I feel so supported and it’s helping me process everything and heal emotionally and mentally from this. I will continue to post updates on TikTok, as we are not done yet with this process. I can’t wait for the day when I can start posting videos about things that are normal. Things I love doing. Music. Make-up. Fun house projects. My kids doing silly things. I just want to get back to normal again.
Thank you so much,
Hannah
