Help Hank recover and assist his mom with the outrageous vet bills.
Hank is a 2 year old basset hound saved from the true darkness of an owner that did not offer him any love or proper care and was subject to living outdoors 24 hours a day tied to a tree. Can you imagine a happy healthy puppy’s life suddenly being turned upside down due to getting into the wrong hands? This was poor Hank’s fate. Not only be subject to the elements every day, hot, cold, rain, bugs and beasts, but the evil infected mosquitoes that lurk and fill the south biting at you every single day.
As a small pup, Hank only knew sadness and despair and much worse, only most likely the fate of illness with a future of becoming heartworm positive due to his exposure every single day by his ungrateful owner.
But then suddenly a year later all of Hank’s luck changed and he was saved by a rescue and traveled many, many miles to New England to find happiness, love, a new home and family.
I was adopted by my mom Suzanne and I now have a sister Stella Bella.
Unfortunately, immediately after arriving Hank was diagnosed with Giardia, and a severe respiratory infection that can on many occasions cause death. With immediate vet care, Hank was able to recover. Months after his arrival he went to the vet for a follow up and was unfortunately diagnosed as heartworm positive! This brought great sadness to my mom Suzanne, yet she’s a fighter and wanted the very best for me. So, my journey began in full treatment to kill these little invasive worms that so many dogs are subject to after living a long life outside in the elements.
I began full heartworm treatment in June 2024 taking various oral medications. Painful injections were done both July and August 2024. The different injections are required to kill the stages of the larvae/worms. This treatment is very expensive, but my strength and will to live won!! Unfortunately, after this invasive heartworm treatment and the most recent medications, my body began to fight hard and unfortunately, I began to show inflammatory signs from the effects of this treatment and all of the medications used to help me pull through to recovery. My Mom was VERY worried, I wasn’t eating, I had no energy, diarrhea, vomiting. You name it, I had it. I was constantly drooling and panting a real lot and ended up at the Emergency Vet for immediate diagnosis and treatment. I was not well. All of this coming with a high price for my Mom to get the care and treatment to save my life. I suffered from gastroenteritis, which is extremely uncomfortable.
There wasn’t anything my Mom wouldn’t do for me. She is a fighter just like me and I knew I was in good hands. I was blessed to come up here with my new family and I am blessed she is right by my side.
I am hoping you can help her with some of this burden and rally to keep me well. And continue a happy, healthy journey in New England with my family.
Love you all!! Thank you, Hank, my mom Suzanne and Fur-Sister Stella
