Hi, I'm Michael Meares, and I'm raising funds for Hands Across Decatur, an inspiring organization dedicated to empowering our unhoused and underserved community.
I volunteer at Hands Across Decatur every week, and I want to tell you what I see.
HAD is a day center in Decatur, Alabama. It's a place where our unhoused neighbors can come in out of the heat or cold, get a meal, take a shower, and be treated like a human being. No sermon required. No questions about how they got there. Just a door that opens.
Last fall, HAD nearly lost that door. The organization came within weeks of closing - no city funding, no endowment, just donations from people who care. A last-minute gift kept the lights on. But the rent is still due every month.
That's what this campaign is for: $30,000 to cover one year of rent on the center, the physical space where 40 to 70 people show up every single day because they have nowhere else to go.
If HAD closes, those people lose the one place in Decatur that's theirs.
Please donate what you can. And if you can't give, share this. It matters just as much.
