Support Hamzeh – A Brave 11-Year-Old Fighting a Rare Illness

Donation protected
Hamzeh is a kind, intelligent, and soccer-obsessed 11-year-old boy whose world changed overnight. He’s currently battling a rare and life-threatening white cell condition, along with a neurological and cognitive disorder that has left his medical team searching for answers. What began as a severe infection has now caused widespread inflammation across his brain, nervous system, and abdomen.

Each day brings a new challenge — painful muscle and joint aches, distressing motor tics, emotional dysregulation, and difficulty with everyday tasks like balance and coordination. Yet, even through the hardest days, Hamzeh continues to smile, offer help to others, and show a strength beyond his years.

Since the sudden onset of symptoms late last year, Hamzeh has spent weeks in hospital, endured multiple procedures, and experienced episodes of unconsciousness and delirium. It took over two weeks and many baffled doctors before a diagnosis was made. Just last week — during the final days of Ramadan — he suffered another flare-up that required urgent treatment. He’s now back on steroids for a second time, and his medical team is continuing to investigate the full extent of his condition and its impact on his body.

Hamzeh’s care involves a team of specialists, including neurologists, psychologists, and paediatric rehab professionals. But while his medical needs are growing, access to support has been repeatedly denied. His devoted parents have applied for Centrelink and NDIS assistance — both of which were refused. They’ve been paying out of pocket for everything: therapies, appointments, hospital visits, and medications.

This financial pressure has taken a heartbreaking toll.

They’ve fallen behind on rent after spending thousands over several months on car rentals — simply to get Hamzeh to and from hospital, school, and appointments after losing their family vehicle. They’ve now received a tenancy termination notice and are facing court proceedings for rent arrears. With no savings, no access to services, and no stable housing options, they’re doing everything they can just to keep going.

A few weeks ago, they were able to purchase a second-hand car, but it broke down on the first day of Eid and remains undriveable. Taxis cost up to $40 a day, and even this has become unaffordable. They’re currently relying on a borrowed vehicle that is unreliable, and the mounting expenses have forced them to stop Hamzeh’s therapy altogether — the very support he needs most right now.

How You Can Help
Your donation can ease the overwhelming load this family is carrying. It will go directly toward:
  • Urgent rent arrears to prevent homelessness
  • Temporary accommodation and storage while they search for a new home
  • A reliable vehicle or car repairs so Hamzeh can get to appointments
  • Therapy and essential medical care
  • Food, daily costs, and school essentials for the children

This fundraiser is being organised as a surprise for the family, who aren’t aware of it yet. I wanted to find a meaningful way to support them during a really tough time. All donations will go directly toward helping them, and I’ll share updates as things progress. Thank you for being part of this effort—it truly means a lot.

Please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a real difference.
