Help Hamid’s family rebuild their new lives in the U.S.
Donation protected
There are many Afghans who helped the United States during the War in Afghanistan at great personal risk. Hamid is one of these allies.
Hamid was in danger because he worked with the U.S. military as part of the National Mine Removal Group (NMRG). After the U.S. withdrawal and Taliban takeover in 2021, his family (him, his wife, and 7 children) had to go into hiding to avoid being caught by the Taliban.
Eventually, they escaped to Pakistan and then to Qatar. After 4 years of seeking safety, Hamid and his family finally arrived in the United States in March 2025 and are now resettling in Chicago to start building their new lives. They are happy, excited, and relieved to be in the U.S., but miss their home, too.
Because of federal funding cuts, they've been unable to secure the standard financial and resettlement assistance provided to newly arrived families in the past. That means Hamid and his family—a family of nine—are starting from scratch.
So far, Hamid and his family have received support to cover 1.5 months of rent from a local agency. However, the rent is $2,000/month (plus utilities), and he does not yet have an income, a car, or English skills.
I'm raising money to help his family cover at least 3 months of living expenses (rent, utilities, household items, etc.) so that Hamid can focus on securing a job and working toward self-sufficiency.
Join me in showing Hamid and his family our gratitude for his service to the U.S. by financially giving.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, will help ease Hamid and his family's financial burden and help them acclimate and integrate into their new life in the U.S.
How your donation helps:
- $25 can help the family with necessities like transit passes, school supplies, or toiletries
- $50 can contribute to part of a monthly utility bill
- $100 can cover a utility bill
- $100+ (or any contribution) can cumulatively help to cover their monthly rent of $2,000
