Support Halsey with surgery expenses!

Hi everyone! I'm Tiffany and my boyfriend Stephen and I are creating this GoFundMe to support surgery and rehab expenses for our dear Halsey.

For those who know Halsey, her intelligence and obedience come second to her loveable and friendly nature. She's a half-Staffie, half-German Pointer who loves taking baths and giving high-fives and kisses. We were blessed to have adopted her and she has been a true help to the many dogs that we've fostered in the last year. As an emotional support animal to us and our temporary fluffy friends, we've witnessed her capacity to love; now our Halsey needs your help. Currently 1 year and 4 months old, we rescued her as a little puppy, overcoming parvo. She proved to be such a fighter; unfortunately, as she grew, we uncovered issues in her bones and joints as well.

Six months ago, she was diagnosed with Elbow Dysplasia in her front legs. Six hours ago, we were given the news that she now has torn ligaments in her back legs due to her overcompensation, rapidly brought on by a genetic ligament defect.

It breaks our hearts because she's such a fighter--but you just can't beat genetics. Bully breeds are predisposed to have hip and joint issues. As you can imagine, the emotional truth is setting in as we are told that she's got the joint health of a 15-year-old dog when not too long ago, we celebrated her first birthday.

We have spent thousands of dollars on X-rays, labs, laser therapy, pain medication, and prescriptions to manage this pain and discomfort. Weak elbows mixed with this congenital ligament defect that we just discovered, have resulted in cruciate ligament injuries (similar to MCL injuries) that will require surgery on both of her legs. Each surgery will cost us $4,500, $9,000 for the pair. Fortunately, we have pet insurance that will cover a portion of the costs, but she will also need ongoing rehabilitative therapy and will be on prescription medication for the rest of her canine life to manage her pain and grant her access to the best quality of life possible.

Halsey is one of the sweetest dogs that you will ever meet - she loves all humans and animals alike. She is full of love and still has so much life and fight in her for us to give up now. UPDATE 4/19/23:

Halsey had her first surgery this morning and was discharged home in the afternoon. After the surgeon opened her up, they discovered that her cruciate ligament was 80% torn and that she has severe arthritis in her right knee; nevertheless, the surgery was successful. It has been a rough day for her as she is in pain and disoriented; however, she is getting all the TLC that she needs. It will be a long road to recovery as we still need to scheduled her 2nd knee surgery for the left leg and go down this road again. Thank you all for your ongoing love and support for Halsey. She is so loved and will be back to her normal, happy self in no time ❤️‍
