Hi!! For those who may not know, my name is Haley Phillips, I am 17 years old and I am currently living in Jacksonville Beach, FL. I have been attending Beach Church since before I can remember and through the church, I have been given the chance to do missionary work. Years back I traveled to Albany, GA, which is where my love for the mission truly began.
The summer of 2024 I was blessed with the opportunity to attend my first international mission trip. From the moment I arrived in San Ramon, Costa Rica, I was welcomed by a sense of belonging and openness that only grew deeper as I immersed myself in the culture and community. My trip to Costa Rica was one of the most transformative experiences of my life, filled with lessons in faith, community, and friendship that I’ll always hold dear.
One of the most impactful parts of the trip was how much I learned about the power of community. The people of San Ramón are deeply connected to one another, always supporting and looking out for each other in a way that felt so natural. I was invited to share meals with local families, where we would talk about life, dreams, and faith. It was during these moments that I realized just how much community enriches life; even with fewer material things, the people here seemed genuinely happy, filled with a peace that comes from togetherness.
Every day in San Ramón was an opportunity to deepen my faith. I was able to attend church services at La Vina San Ramon and was touched by the devotion and sincerity of everyone there. Worship felt alive, full of joy and hope, and I found myself reconnecting with my own beliefs in a more profound way. I learned that faith is so much more than words or rituals; it’s a way of life that involves kindness, generosity, and an unwavering trust in something greater. I learned what it truly meant to be the hands and feet of the Lord, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45) Witnessing how the community leaned on their faith was inspiring, and it renewed my perspective on what it means to live a life of purpose and love.
With all that being said, I have the opportunity to return to this beautiful city summer of 2025, and if you are willing and/or able to donate to make this trip possible for me I would be beyond grateful.
Thank you,
Pura Vida
