This spring break, Hālau Huakaʻi will pilot its very first trip—a powerful learning journey to Hawaiʻi Island focused on indigenous knowledge, cultural practices, and authentic connections with people and place. Our group of fifth grade girls, along with their parents and teachers, are preparing for an unforgettable experience and need your support to make it possible for everyone.
Hālau Huakaʻi is a new program dedicated to creating hands-on, culturally rooted learning experiences for young students. By traveling together, students, teachers, and parents will step beyond the classroom to learn directly from the land, museums, and the people of Hawaiʻi. During this huakaʻi, students will visit a museum, participate in a land-based learning experience, and spend the night bonding with their peers and teachers. These opportunities are designed to help students feel confident, independent, and capable as learners—building strength, responsibility, and self-belief along the way.
Huakaʻi are more than just trips. They are opportunities for students to listen, observe, and engage in meaningful experiences that honor Hawaiian culture and ʻike kūpuna. With this guided journey, our students will feel empowered to learn by journey for the rest of their lives, using the world, museums, hikes, and people of the land as their teachers. Young girls will feel the power to create their own learning and travel, carrying these lessons with them far beyond the classroom. We would be extremely grateful for your support in helping our students travel, learn, and grow through this unforgettable experience. Thank you for being part of their journey.
