Support Hala’s Survival and Education

Hello, I am a music teacher in Philadelphia who's been in contact with Hala since November 2024. We've met over video call and chats on WhatsApp, she has shared her schoolwork and I can only hope our conversations have helped her rapidly improving English. She is brilliant, compassionate, and determined to help her family. She wants to study to be a doctor, and with your help I believe we can keep her loved ones and her dreams alive.

Funds will be needed primarily for food as prices increase due to aid restrictions, but may also go to medicine, warm clothing, and supplies to reinforce the tent in which they are forced to live. We want to collect for Hala to attend university, though the survival of her family has become the priority. All funds go direct by wire transfer to a trusted contact on the ground; I send screenshots and confirm each transaction.

Hello, how are you? Have you ever imagined that you would lose everything you own, that you would lose your home, your memories, people dear to your heart, your belongings, your education, and your dreams? Yes, I lost. I am Hala, an 18-year-old Palestinian girl. I belong to a family of 10 people. From that moment when I was doing my daily routine on the morning of October 7, my life turned upside down, as if I were in a dream from which I will never wake up.

One day, I took refuge with my family in a shelter center under the influence of bombing and destruction. I did not know that I would not be able to return except to my home, and that it would be completely destroyed, along with my memories and dreams. It was not enough to be displaced once, but we were displaced several times in the southern region, which we thought were safe areas, but danger was following us everywhere.

My family is large, consisting of 10 people. We provide for our needs with difficulty due to the poor financial situation, as all of my family members lost their jobs. My dream has always been medicine and I believed in myself for my excellence and obtaining high degrees and certificates, but now I see this dream as impossible to achieve. Now my biggest dream has become to wake up from this cursed dream and to be able to complete my studies only.

رسالة من هالة: أهلاً، كيف حالك؟ هل تخيلت يوماً أنك ستخسرين كل ما تملكين، ستخسرين بيتك، ذكرياتك، أشخاصاً عزيزين على قلبك، مقتنياتك، تعليمك، وأحلامك؟ نعم، خسرت. أنا هالة، فتاة فلسطينية تبلغ من العمر 16 عاماً. أنتمي إلى عائلة مكونة من 10 أفراد. منذ تلك اللحظة التي كنت أقوم فيها بروتيني اليومي في صباح السابع من أكتوبر، انقلبت حياتي رأساً على عقب، وكأنني في حلم لن أستيقظ منه أبداً.

ذات يوم لجأت مع عائلتي إلى مركز إيواء تحت تأثير القصف والدمار، ولم أكن أعلم أنني لن أستطيع العودة إلا إلى بيتي، وأنه سيُدمر بالكامل، ومعه ذكرياتي وأحلامي. لم يكن النزوح مرة واحدة كافياً، بل نزوحنا عدة مرات في المنطقة الجنوبية التي كنا نظنها مناطق آمنة، لكن الخطر كان يلاحقنا في كل مكان.

عائلتي كبيرة تتكون من 10 أفراد، نوفر احتياجاتنا بصعوبة بسبب الوضع المادي المتردي، حيث فقد جميع أفراد عائلتي وظائفهم، كان حلمي دائمًا هو الطب وكنت أؤمن بنفسي لتفوقي والحصول على الدرجات العلمية والشهادات العالية، ولكن الآن أرى أن هذا الحلم مستحيل التحقيق، والآن أصبح حلمي الأكبر هو الاستيقاظ من هذا الحلم الملعون وأن أتمكن من إكمال دراستي فقط.
