Support Haley and Mykel Carerra’s Baby Xaphyre

Hi, my name is Cheryl Howell. My neighbors in Clovis, NM, Haley and Mykel Carrera, are a young couple in their 20s who unfortunately lost their 9-month-old son one year ago in a terrible accident. This was such a tragedy and devastation for them. After several months of grief, they were able to get pregnant again, this time with a baby girl, Xaphyre Rose.

2 weeks ago, sweet Xaphyre made her entrance into this world one month premature. She had to be airlifted out due to swallowing all her feces and them not being able to remove all of it. She is having major complications and is still in the NICU in Lubbock. This poor baby is struggling; she is losing weight and currently allergic to all milk she has been given which has caused a bad rash to the point it’s bleeding. Also, the baby was placed in a nursery, but at the time, nurses did not realize the other 3 babies had COVID.

Insurance has paid for the parents' motel, but nothing else. They both have jobs but have been unable to work due to having to be at the hospital daily with their baby. They are struggling to make their house payment and monthly bills, and at risk of losing their babies insurance, which could result in even more out of pocket medical bills. The hospital is 2 hours away and They have had to purchase gasoline, and are out food costs due to having to be at the hospital.

After all this family has been through, I would hate for them to not even have a home to bring her to. It would be such a relief for them not to have to worry about not only losing their home but to also have medical bills and personal needs taken care of.
