Support Hades in his Tumor Removal Recovery
Donation protected
My cat Hades is very special to me. He was the first out of my zoo of pets that I adopted. He's become such an important part of mine and Sarah's little family, and we love him so much.
Two weeks ago, around March 15th, he started to not be able to put his third eyelid away when he opened his eye. We took him to the ophthalmologist, and it was recommended we get him a CT scan because the doctor was worried there was a mass behind his eye. On March 25th, he had a surgical consult at Red Bank Animal Hospital. They recommended surgery as well as the CT scan because they agreed it did not look good. We were beginning to get very worried about our little guy. Red Bank did the CT scan on March 26th, and it unfortunately showed it was a mass. So many radiologists looked at the scan. They all agreed it looked like a nasty one.
While Hades was under anesthesia, they contacted Sarah and I and told us that we had two options: to remove the mass and his eye and send it to biopsy, or take a cell culture and send it to pathology to see if it's cancer first and risk him having to go under anesthesia again in a few days to ultimately remove it anyways. We chose to remove his eye immediately to get the mass out. They did a chest x-ray first to make sure it hadn't metastasized if it was cancer, but it was clear, luckily. Hades thankfully made it through his eye removal surgery, and the mass was removed as well. Unfortunately, he was very painful, so he had to stay overnight for monitoring and pain relief before he could come home.
After he was in recovery, we were told the likely tumor had eroded part of his nasal bone and that he still will likely need to go through some chemo and radiation. While we have pet insurance for him, it doesn't cover 100% of the cost, and this will still be a long road for him and us. Please keep us in your thoughts as we go through this difficult time. We just want our boy healthy and happy again. Thank you for supporting Hades ❤️
