I never thought I’d be writing something like this, but I’m asking for help for my sweet girl, Gypsy, who needs urgent eye surgery to save her vision.

A little while ago, it seemed like she woke up one morning with an injured eye. I brought her to our regular vet right away, where we started with three different medications that I administered daily for a week. Unfortunately, there was no improvement. We then tried another round of medications, still with no progress. When her eye continued to worsen instead of heal, we were referred to a veterinary eye specialist.

The consultation alone was expensive, but it was absolutely necessary to understand why her eye wasn’t healing. That’s when we received the diagnosis: entropion. Entropion is a condition where the eyelid rolls inward, causing the eyelashes to rub directly against the eye. In Gyp’s case, this constant friction caused a painful ulcer that cannot heal on its own. The specialist explained that surgery is the only treatment option, and they strongly recommended doing it as soon as possible to reduce her risk of permanent damage or blindness.

Until we can get her surgery scheduled, Gyp is on pain medication and antibiotic eye drops to keep her as comfortable as possible, but this is only a temporary solution.

For those who know me, you know how much this dog means to me. Gyp is my COVID baby, and I got her almost five years ago. She was the first dog I ever got completely on my own. She came to college with me, moved everywhere I moved, and has been my constant companion through so many changes in life. She and my other dog, who has since passed, were always by my side when I needed them most. Through everything uncertain, she was my constant.

I love her more than words can say.

The estimated cost of her surgery is $3,800, and that does not include post-op medications, aftercare, or follow-up rechecks. Every dollar adds up quickly, and while I’m doing everything I can, the cost is overwhelming.
