Hello gay people in my phone!
On New Years Eve of this year my lovely metamore and life partner, Gwynivere, will be going into surgery for a very exciting and important gender-affirming surgery as a vital step in her journey of self discovery and bringing her body into alignment with who she really is. After being unable to stay on HRT for several years due to medical issues, her care team has agreed this procedure is a medically necessary part of helping treat the depression and dysphoria she’s struggled with during this time.
Gwyn will need to take at least four weeks off work followed by a gradual return on light duty in order to fully and properly recover. Because her job is very physically demanding and requires long hours on her feet, this time away will come with a significant loss of income for our family as she is the primary provider and source of income as a full time worker. Ensuring that she is able to take adequate off of work and does not return before she is recovered will also prevent her from experiencing preventable complications that may result in needing surgical revisions and ultimately more lost wages. This along with the costs of medical supplies not covered by insurance have fully informed the amount we are working to crowdfund during this 8 week campaign.
Our goal is to help cover her lost and reduced wages so she can focus fully on healing and not on her bank account balance or expenses.
Since moving from Florida to California to find safety and community Gwyn has poured her energy into building both exactly where she stands. Not only is she the primary income earner of our household, but she also works as a retail associate at a local FFL here in Sacramento, CA. She is the only trans woman in her workplace and one of very very few in her field. She is simultaneously working toward her NRA certification to become a professional firearm safety instructor beyond her current DOJ instructor certification.
Gwyn's work is more than just a way to pay the family bills, it is a part of her greater mission to create safety and inclusivity for other trans folks like herself in a culture that frequently ostracizes and excludes them. Gwyn has become a trusted and knowledgeable resource for other trans people in our community who want to learn about firearms safety responsibly and in a culture of acceptance when the dominant culture of 2A often excludes them at the expense of their personal safety. She’s built bridges with her work, shared vital knowledge, and created safer spaces, and established a sense of trust and support in skill sharing with her peers in a way that has prioritized mental health advocacy and meeting people where they are at in order to make these skills accessible to anyone interested in learning regardless of skill level and experience.
Outside of her 9 to 5, Gwyn has volunteered countless hours of her time by helping her community and offering peer education, mentorship, and directly supporting our other partner and co-parent in his own community advocacy work where he has helped at risk trans folks with securing housing, transportation, acquiring and amending their vital records from out of state, and organizing peer support focused gatherings. Our family even fund raised some of the costs to repair her work truck this summer so that we can keep volunteering and providing mutual aid.
Gwyn is our family's protector, a loving partner, and a devoted stepmom. She is the kind of friend who never hesitates to help others, she even kept me alive and (mostly) sane as we made our urgent exodus from Florida together back in 2023.
Now is our chance to give back to her the love and support she has shown us by helping her get what she really wants to bring with her into the new year, 500 cc's of silicone and a killer silhouette in her work uniform.
Your contributions and shares for this campaign each help bring us closer to our goal of helping Gwyn get back on her feet and fulfill her most important role: being everyone's favorite trans gun lesbian in Sacramento.
To a lifetime of getting ma'am'ed in the workplace.
