Dear Potential Sponsor,

We are Gwyneth and Meghan Edwards; we have been selected to represent the state of New York as members of the 2023 New York National Wrestling Team. As members of the team, we will compete against wrestlers from all 50 states at the US Marine Corps Junior National Wrestling Championship in Fargo, ND from July 13 - 16, 2023. This is the largest and one of the most prestigious wrestling tournaments in the world. This event is a wrestling competition in the Olympic Style of Freestyle wrestling.

We have represented Lewiston-Porter on the wrestling mat for many years, since our start in the Lewiston-Porter Youth Wrestling Club at age 5. We worked our way up the ranks to members of the high school varsity wrestling team and are seniors at Lewiston-Porter High School. We are the first female members of the Lewiston-Porter high school wrestling team and the founding members of the first Lewiston-Porter girl's varsity wrestling team. We are both NYS Intersectional Champions and NYSPHAA Girl’s State Qualifiers. Meghan placed 5th at the state tournament in the 145-pound weight class and qualified for the 2023 US Marine Corps Junior Nationals placing 3rd at the 2023 NY-USA Freestyle State Championship in the 138-pound weight class. Gwyneth placed 4th at the Freestyle State Championship and qualified by placing 4th in the 144-pound weight class at the 2023 Northeast Regional Championship.

In addition to achieving excellence on the wrestling mat, we have worked to excel in our academics. We have both earned high honor roll each grading period while taking AP, Honors, and college classes throughout our high school careers. Meghan will graduate with a 98.5-grade point average and Gwyneth will graduate with a 99.0-grade point average. We will both attend John Carroll University in the fall, with Meghan planning to major in history and Gwyneth planning to major in exercise science. We will also compete for the Blue Streaks as members of the first women’s wrestling team at JCU.

Wrestling has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of our lives. Through these experiences, we have learned discipline, self-motivation, commitment, and the rewards of sacrifice and hard work. We have shared goals to succeed both in the classroom and in wrestling while earning our Bachelor’s degrees. This experience on the New York National Wrestling Team is a critical step to further develop the discipline and commitment needed to achieve these goals.

Like many things in life, we cannot do this alone. It will take the support of our family, coaches, teammates, and community to help us accomplish all we have set out to do. The cost to compete on the New York National Team is $2,250 per wrestler. This includes travel to our team camp on Long Island, travel to Fargo, ND for the competition, lodging, meals, and equipment package. Today we would like to ask for your support toward the cost of competing for New York at the 2023 US Marine Corps Junior National Wrestling Championship. Any financial assistance you can offer will be greatly appreciated. We hope to raise these funds on or before the week of July 9, 2023. We will do our best to represent the state and Western New York with our efforts.
