Hi, my name is Mariah, and I’m writing with a very heavy heart. My dog Guts—my soul dog, my constant, my tiny shadow—is fighting for his life after an emergency that neither of us saw coming.
Guts is a 19-pound mixed breed with a huge personality. He’s the boss of every big dog at the park, loves sunbathing like it’s his full-time job, and takes squirrel patrol (and yelling at people near "his" yard) very seriously. He’s goofy, brave, and full of love.
Yesterday, Guts started acting off. We rushed him to the vet, where they discovered he had ingested a foreign object that lodged in his small intestine. Tragically, the part of his intestine around the blockage had already begun to die. He’s now undergoing emergency surgery to remove the object and resect the damaged intestine—a risky, complex procedure followed by several days of intensive post-op care.
The estimate for surgery alone is over $4000, and each day in observation being between $1500-$2000. While I immediately said yes to giving Guts every chance at survival, I don’t have the resources to cover this on my own. Like many, we’ve been hit with unexpected expenses lately, and this emergency has been crushing emotionally and financially.
If you’re in a place to give—no matter the amount—it would mean the world to us. Your donation will go directly toward Guts’ surgery and the 3–5 days of recovery care he needs to survive and heal. And if you’re not able to give, sharing this campaign is just as appreciated.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping me fight for my little guy. I’ll continue posting updates on his recovery. Please keep Guts in your thoughts—he’s got a lot of heart, and I know he’s not done being the boss of the backyard just yet.
With love and gratitude,
Mariah & Guts ☀️
