Help Save Gustav: Emergency Surgery for Our Beloved Basset Hound

Gustav, our 8-year-old Basset Hound, recently underwent emergency surgery to remove a foreign object stuck in his digestive tract. We've had Gustav since he was an 8-week-old puppy, and he has been a cherished member of our family for all of his 8 years. He has an older brother named Beauregard and is affectionately known by many nicknames, including Goosey, Nooshy, Mimi, Moo Moo, and Richie (short for Dr. Richard Janooshy MD, Treats).

Gustav is incredibly special to us. His goofy and absent-minded nature is balanced by his overwhelming sweetness and affection. He is the biggest cuddle bug, always snuggling up under a blanket with just the tip of his nose poking out. His favorite activity is sniffing everything around him, and his love for food has earned him the reputation of being our little garbage disposal. Unfortunately, this led to him ingesting something he shouldn’t have, resulting in a medical emergency.

Gustav adores his Papa (also known as Baba) and loves snuggling on the couch by the window. He absolutely loves the beach, where he happily chases Beauregard around the beach, barking with joy. When it’s time to leave, he likes to plant his booty in the sand and politely refuse to go.

Gustav was admitted to VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital for emergency surgery. Not saving him was not an option for us, so we gave the go-ahead for the doctors to perform the surgery. Gustav is very much a member of our family; our pets are our children. We are grateful that he is recovering, but this unexpected medical emergency has left us with an overwhelming financial burden.

For the past couple of years, we have been on a single income while Gustav’s mom went back to school to finish her biology degree. We are still currently on one income while she is job hunting in a tough job market. This situation has led us to put the expense on a credit card, resulting in debt that we will likely not be able to pay off anytime soon due to high interest rates.

Having Gustav healthy again means everything to us. He is a cherished member of our family, and seeing him happy and pain-free is our top priority. Any support we receive will help us cover his medical expenses and alleviate the financial stress we are currently facing. Thank you for considering our campaign and for any assistance you can provide.
