I'm a community organizer with a dream -- but right now, I've got no more dollars.
- I'm on leave from Oakland Parks & Rec.
- I was laid off by OUSD.
- I'm not longer coaching ONDA, the youth club programming that my staff and I poured into.
This summer hit hard. I've spent years building programs that uplift & empower youth, create access, and bring joy.
Right now it seems as though those who are working against the systems of oppression are suffering the most, being hurt by those who are inadvertently empowering the same systems that oppress them.
My community, coaching staff, and I are really looking to break these cycles.
What I'm Asking For:
I'm fundraising to support two urgent needs:
1. July & August rent and bills
I'm trying to stay housed and stable while I regroup. My plan is to return to teaching after the summer ends, but I was really hurt financially by being placed on leave.
I need support right now to make it through the next 4-6 weeks.
2. Seed Funding for a new swim club I'm launching
Even in the storm, I've been dreaming and planning. I'm in the early stages of creating a new Oakland swim club rooted in joy, equity, and empowerment.
Something built for the youth, by the community, with a new fresh wave of leadership. I learned from working with ONDA and am ready to begin working on my own chapter to Oakland's swimming story.
Why this Matters:
I've spent my life showing up for the people and youth -- through education, athletics, water safety, and creative projects. I believe in building from the ground up -- working in the grassroots -- and that nobody should have to struggle in silence.
This is one of those moments where I have to practice what I preach and be vulnerable.
If I've ever made you feel seen, supported, or inspired -- I';m humbly asking for that love to flow back my way to support me and more importantly, my dream for community & empowerment.
Your support helps me keep dreaming, orgaanizing, and building even in hard times.
Whether it's $5, $50, or even just sharing this, thank you.
This is not charity -- it's community.
Every time we get broken down, we rise from the ashes like a phoenix.
