Support Gus's Journey to Full Recovery

Donation protected
My name is Brett Joslin. On November 9th, 2024, my dog Gus was hit by a car going 55+. The driver of the vehicle didn’t stop, but luckily a guardian angel was nearby and found who he belonged to. We were told by them that it didn’t look good and they did not know if he was ok. When my husband made it to him, he was lifting his head. He was alive and breathing! He made it an hour away to Michigan State Vet Hospital and remained in stable condition. He had air in his chest and had to get a chest tube. A CT scan showed several fractures to his ear, a skull fracture to his sinus cavity, and minor air around his brain, which is incredible given the force of impact. His overall mentation has improved and he is trending in the right direction!

His abdomen and ribs were remarkably unscathed. The issue is in his pelvis. He will need to go through two different procedures to reconstruct his pelvis, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

This whole ordeal is expected to cost around $25,000. While this is an incredibly high amount, I will stop at nothing to heal my dog. We are told that he is pretty banged up, but everything is salvageable and he is expected to make a full recovery with no significant change to his quality of life once everything is healed. After hearing this, I refuse to quit. I will do what it takes to ensure my family and I get the lifetime of memories that we deserve with this dog.

I am overwhelmed by the gratitude of those that I have in my life, and several people have been asking how to help. While it is difficult to accept anything, I feel comforted that there are caring people still left in this world and I am lucky enough to have them in my corner.

Any little bit helps, but please don’t feel obligated. Thoughts and prayers have got us this far and will continue to carry us through this long healing process. I am forever thankful for those that are keeping myself, my kids, my other pups, and most importantly my Gus in their thoughts.

Gus is an angel on earth and clearly has more bones to chew and more poops to take in our basement. He’s not done yet.
