Support Guna Culture and Freedom
Donation protected
My name is Alek and I'm a high school student who loves learning foreign languages and exploring other cultures. When my mom came back from a trip to Panama where she attended nature-inspired programs hosted by non-profit Geoversity (www.geoversity.org), she told me about meeting indigenous Guna people who live peacefully on their Guna Yala autonomous territory, speak multiple languages, and treasure their unique cultural heritage. I was inspired by stories of how the Gunas transcribe their dreams into colorful textile art called molas, live in harmony with and protect nature, have a tradition of gender equality and celebrate their history and cultural freedom through unique music and dance.
At the same time, I was sad to discover that the pristine Guna Yala islands once known as San Blas are negatively affected by trash left behind by tourists and rising seas that have displaced the Gunas from their homes. I decided to learn more and figure out how to help. Please support my cause by making a donation so that the Guna people continue to thrive and preserve the amazing traditions they've so generously shared with others. Your gift will also make it possible for the Gunas to celebrate independence during the February 25, 2022 anniversary week of the 1925 Guna Revolution by staging special musical performances throughout Guna Yala with indigenous Banda La Tribu and guest guitarist/Kuna Yala Song composer Shea Welsh, a celebration I've been invited to and am planning to attend. Thanks to your generous support, I will be able to present this gift to the Guna community and show them how much we care.
Dog nued - thank you in Guna!
